River SOurce Family Center Policies and Procedures

In order to ensure the safety and wellbeing of children and youth while receiving services from River Source Family Center, a program of Family Support Center, the following policies and procedures are in place:

Excerpts from: POLICIES AND PROCEDURES FOR PREVENTING CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE, Family Support Center, 2025

Guidelines on Interactions Between Individuals:
  • When childcare is provided for River Source programming, a minimum of 2 adults (either volunteers or staff) will be required to provide this service.

  • Parent Involvement:

    • Children will be supervised by their own parents/caregivers at River Source Family Center activities including, but not limited to, group connections, individual parent education – home/ office visits, and family fun events. The parent/ caregiver responsibility pertains to before, during, and after participation in River Source Family Center programming.

  • ​​​Bathroom procedures for River Source Family Center programming:

    • Parents/ caregivers are responsible for their own children’s toileting and diapering. This pertains to on-site and off-site River Source Family Center programming.

Monitoring Behavior:

All employees and volunteers are responsible for monitoring behaviors and interactions between staff/volunteers and youth.

Ensuring a Safe Environment:

Caregivers are required to be present at all River Source Family Center activities.

Staff and Volunteer Screening:
  • Volunteer screenings:

    • Criminal background checks,

    • registry searches,

    • references, and

    • agency policy training

  • Staff screenings:

    • Criminal background checks,

    • registry searches,

    • references,

    • fingerprinting, and

    • agency policies/personnel handbook trainings and Stewards of Children (a Child Sexual Abuse prevention training).

Training for River Source Family Center Volunteers:
  • All new volunteers are required to complete the onboarding checklist with a member of River Source staff before they begin their volunteer activities.

  • Volunteers who are providing childcare for River Source programming will receive training on agency policies related to keeping children safe.
